TUESDAY 11 DECEMBER 2018 - KOLKATA, INDIA

Famous khadi cotton from India is spun and woven by hand. This material is often associated with Gandhi, who encouraged the people of India to wear clothing made from it, giving the fabric a sentimental value that makes this natural material even more precious. Indian cotton is made from the plant fibres that surround the seeds of the cotton plant. This fibre is transformed into thread, which is then woven into fabric.

MONDAY 10 DECEMBER 2018 - KOLKATA, INDIA

After a short time in Thailand, I am back on the road and flying to India - specifically to Kolkata and its four million inhabitants - 14 million if you include the surrounding areas. I'm here to meet artisans who specialise in weaving famous khadi cotton...

There are a few different transport options available...I opted for a colourful car to help me (almost) forget how dangerous this country's roads are.

THURSDAY 6 DECEMBER 2018 - BANGKOK, THAILAND

It feels bit like La La Land on the road this morning! I've just landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport. I'm heading to Bangkok's central “sois” - side streets that branch off major streets! From there I'll take a tuk tuk across this sprawling city. But which colour to pick?!

TUESDAY 4 DECEMBER 2018 - HANOÏ, VIETNAM

Of course, whenever I'm in Vietnam I always visit the artisans who make our lacquer items. Over the years we have developed a close relationship...

They currently make our handled trays. They are so skilled, assembling 14 pieces of wood like dominos to create the structure. They then cover the items in lacquer in the usual way. Click here to learn more!
